‘SOMETHING MORE’ BY TRACEY MOFFAT IS A SERIES OF 9 IMAGES OF WHICH THIS ONE SHOWN IS #5 OF THE COLLECTION. THE
ROSALIE GASCOIGNE’S PIECE TITLED ‘FOREIGN AFFAIRS’ IS AN ABSTRACT FORM OF WHICH SHE HAS CREATED OF SAWN WOOD SITTING ON CRAFT BOARD. IN CONSTRUCTING THIS SCULPTURE, ROSALIE HAD A WORKSHOP TYPE SET UP WHERE BY SHE WOULD HAVE REQUIRED A STURDY PLATFORM SUCH AS A WORK BENCH AND THE USE OF A VICE. GASCOIGNE HAS TAKEN PIECES OF TIMBER AND USED A SAW TO CUT THESE UP INTO BLOCKS OF VARIOUS SHAPES AND SIZES WHICH FORM THE PIECES THAT MAKE UP HER COMPLEX PUZZLE. SHE HAS THEN CAREFULLY ARRANGED THE WOODEN ELEMENTS TO FIT IN WITH ONE AND ANOTHER THROUGH FORMS OF TRIANGLES, RECTANGLES, AND SQUARES THAT ARE FASTENED TO THE CRAFT BOARD CREATING ONE LARGE SQUARE. RESEARCH WOULD NOT REVEAL BUT IT APPEARS THE TIMBER WAS PAINTED IN SHADES OF GREY WITH THE BLACK STENCILED WORDS PRIOR TO ROSALIE CUTTING THEM INTO BLOCK FORM.
